that’s silly for me to even type unless you don’t know me. I’ll see if I can quit talking like that LOL I’m all about the real so that’s ridiculous to type.

But, that’s the saying, so let’s be real for a few minutes.

We are resistant to certain words and phrases. Our experiences dictate what those words are.

Me? I’m quite resistant to common biz terms. No reason really and I’m not going to analyze it, I just know I am. You bring up elevator pitch and I tune out. Kiss my ass, bu-bye.

It doesn’t have to make sense, I just have to understand that happens and rephrase what needs to happen. And the idea of what an elevator pitch is…that’s important to growing my business.

You might be wondering if you’ll ever find your voice as a business owner. You will, or you won’t be a business owner long. It’s a hard truth. If you don’t tell people you sell things then you can’t sell. It starts off as that basic.

Some people may know that you’re an entrepreneur… but do they have any idea what you actually do? How can you find ways to get the word out about your business and do it without spending a fortune on ads and help? Can you achieve this without sounding desperate? (quick note, desperation is obvious in marketing and blocks sales)

This is the concept of the elevator pitch…ugh, I really need to come up with my own phrase for it. OR maybe I just need to write it out a million times on a chalkboard and take away it’s annoying power of resistance it puts in me. See, I’m a work in progress as well.

Think about it, you would likely spend thousands in time and money to crafting an advertising message to push the word out about your business. That’s what the big dogs do that we look up to in business right? So why not do a very simple thing and start offering a basic explanation of the products and services you deliver with your business? At the very least, at some point someone who knows someone who needs what you deliver, will remember your name and that can turn into a profit producing situation for you.

That is N.E.T.W.O.R.K.I.N.G.!!!

Here are some EASY ways to let people know about your business!

Any chance you get, have your business card ready.

Yes, I said biz card. I know it’s old school, but seriously, how else will someone remember the website you told them unless you give it to them? The new one’s I had printed off have a QR code on the back that takes them to a page with my site, free group, product I want highlighted, and the podcast.

You can save yourself a lot of time trying to explain what you do as you hope they remember. Just sum it up on the business card and put in a compelling logo as well as your basic contact information. Then, you can talk with people about your business offerings.

Before the conversation goes off the rails, put your business card into their hands so that they can refer back to it later and maybe even follow up and want to do some business with you. Make sure you are saying that you hope they will pass the card on to someone they feel it would help.

Network like crazy.

Networking = Sharing. Make sure you are asking all about them so you can point people to their biz.

Another way to get comfortable talking about yourself as a business owner is to network with other business owners. These people will be in various phases of their business. Some may just be starting out. Others may have had their own company for years. Still others maybe have even flipped businesses, making this old hat to them.

The point is that if you surround yourself with like-minded individuals who are also eager to get the word out about the products and services that they supply to their customers, you will adapt to their way of speaking and ease into the habit of talking freely about having your own business. You’ll also be able to refer each other to friends and aquantances!

This is just one benefit of being in the Boss Action Membership. We know each other in the membership and it’s easy to promote each other.

Work up an elevator speech.

Bleh…ok, ok, I’m gonna work on this. See, typing it more is making it better.

Elevator pitch, elevator pitch, elevator pitch.

An elevator pitch is a brief explanation, just a quick few sentences, letting people know about your business and what you offer. They call it an elevator pitch because you should be able to say the words and offer the explanation in a clear and direct way and do it in the amount of time it would take to ride an elevator.

I have resistance to it because I feel like I have to rehearse these sentence and I know it will sound fake as fuck.

**puke**

Yes, you are reading me working on my mindset right this minute…members are used to this journey. ROFLMAO

Being able to whip this simple message out at a critical time is definitely a good way to get into the habit of talking freely about your business with other people. Plus, that simple phrasing will help cement in people’s minds what it is that you do in your business.

SOOOO, yes this is important. We need to have quick and easy phrases and words for what we do.

Believe me, I’ve had people ask and then I stare at them blankly as they stare at me blankly and it’s a bit awkward ya know. Plus they won’t remember anything except I didn’t know what I do bahahaha Cool, that works well. I totally came across as someone they should hire. (eye roll)

So get practiced at saying what you do. Say it with authority even if they won’t understand it.

When I tell most guys in our life what I do they can’t comprehend. And they don’t need to. They are not my target market. They aren’t female entrepreneurs working online. But when I’m confident in what I’m saying it’s easy for them to remember key terms, female entrepreneur working online…oh hey, go talk to my buddy’s wife Val.

See how that can work?

I’ve blown so many networking opportunities because I wasn’t confident in what I offered.

This is why it’s important to know who your target market is. If you haven’t gotten clear on that, take 20 minutes and watch my Who The Hell Are You Talking To? video and fill out the quick worksheets.

It’s time to own what you do and spread it wide.

If you aren’t confident in yourself and your message, join us in the Boss Action Membership. I’d love to coach you!

I can tell myself, “I’ll just send out this little email and hope that the right people read it and then my business will explode.”

Twiddles thumbs. Taps toes. Still waiting. Have you done the same?

You can keep on waiting, but others are pushing themselves more and will be heard more. More people will find them because they took big leaps.

It’s not easy to get out of our comfort zones. In fact, it’s freaking scary. But guess what, it’s scary for every single person on the planet. Our brains are wired to keep us safely doing what we’ve always done in hopes of protecting us. It’s instinct.

I know you want more and you do not want to get bored in your business. You want growth. You want reach. You want to continue to find that perfect person that needs you.

Which means you must do something different to get to something more.

AHHHH, I’m amping myself up just typing all of this.

Four years ago I commited fully to doing the Stretch Yourself challenge. And I NAILED it. The motivation I got from that 30 day group coaching challenge led me to continue to stretch out of my comfort zone. I didn’t stop with the challenges I completed that September. Each new challenge I completed and saw results from pushed me to grab another one and see how I could get the butterfies again by stepping across that line in the sand my mind had set about what I could accomplish.

Last three years, I was a HELL YES to blowing it out of the water again. AND I DID!

My Stretch Yourself Challenge commitments for 2020 were:

Start a Facebook Group – Yes, I have done this. But this was a new partnership and we went in fully planned.

Host a Facebook Live Series – THIS was my main focus. I created a FB Live series AND repurposed it. WOOHOO

Make an Intentional Connection – Thanks to my podcast I’ve been getting a stream of new contacts, but I haven’t had to reach out to find them. I set out to create connections and the new friendships and biz aquaintances are awesome!

I had even better results. Video is no longer something that makes me cringe. Bring it on, make up or no make up lol I’m happy to share my words. I stopped feeling lame about asking for testimonials and happily ask for my clients and customers experiences. I SPOKE LIVE AT AN EVENT! Remember those? lol

Kelly adds new challenges each year and I’m eyeballing what I would like to tackle. Because I’ve done it multiple years, I’ve done almost all of them and sometimes the new ones aren’t fitting me and my biz. The great thing is you can grab any of the older ones and decide to push it. Just like I did with the FB Live series. I had done lives. I’d planned out lives…kinda. But I had never intentionally created a series knowing I was going to repurpose it. Pushing myself to use it in multiple ways was awesome!

So don’t go look at the list of items and think “oh, I’ve done all that.” You may have, but did you stretch yourself to make it amazing or just go through the motion?

What if you get out of your comfort zone and do things you have no idea you have in you?

What would it look like to step it up and dig more to push your business to the next level? The results of your efforts will be amazing, but you won’t know unless you try.

You can now sign up for the live challenge. No self-study necessary, jump in for all the training and conversation you can grab to push your biz to the next level.

Join the Stretch Yourself Challenge!

Biz Boldly,

When you’re looking to network, you do have to put yourself out there to make connections. Even if you’re making connections online, you still have to reach out.

Regardless of where you plan to connect, make it a priority to try to create at least one new networking opportunity every day. It may take a few contacts to make a solid connection.

LinkedIn is a great place for connecting, but so are forums in your niche, Facebook groups, and even direct networking platforms like Twitter! All you have to do to find the opportunities is use the site’s search function with keywords.

When you’re trying to connect, don’t overwhelm the person with eagerness. You can network without coming across as too pushy. Keep in mind that other successful people have busy schedules and they may not respond for longer than you think.

Look for organizations of similar interest. If you’re into making and selling jewelry and you’re hoping to network because your end goal is to grow your business, then you need to network with professional organizations and leaders in the same niche.

This might be an association for jewelry makers. The association might be one that breaks down the jewelry by the kind it is – such as contemporary jewelry. You would also want to look for stonesetting or stonecutting organizations.

Many of those will offer valuable resources that can link you to further networking opportunities. One thing you haveto remember is that joining isn’t enough – you have to be an active participant.

How are people in a group going to know who to recommend for you to network with if they’re unaware of your slant in the marketplace? So don’t be afraid to be vocal about what you do and where you plan to take your business.

Look up trade organizations in the field that you’re in. Pay attention to local and statewide organizations as well as national and international ones. These organizations can also help keep you in the loop on the latest trends and news in your area of interest.

You can get to know other people within these associations that form a bigger community and a greater chance of networking. Reach out to individual members who seem active and form closer bonds and friendships.

Go to as many conferences as you can possibly attend every year. You’ll be able to mingle with others who can offer you resources and connections to help you reach your end goals.

You’ll gain practical advice, be able to take learn from someone else’s knowledge – and come away feeling inspired. Plus, you’ll enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded individuals.

Make sure that you have an easy way that others at the gathering can contact you. You’ll want to have a flier or business card. These people will be meeting and interacting with so many others – and you don’t want your name to get lost in the crowd.

If you have a book in print, then you might have a few onhand to dole out to special connections –and make sure you autograph it with a personalized message and your contact information, too.

Go online to find the networking opportunities that you need. Many of the organizations that you’ll seek have an online presence. You can easily engage and interact on a business’s social media page or on their blog page.

If there’s not something already online for a networking opportunity in the field that you’re in or headed in, then create one. You can bet that if you’re looking to network and nothing’s available, that others are too – and they will find you.

Networking opportunities are abundant in many areas where you can find support both for your personal and professional goals. Being a part of a community should help you be more productive, so make sure you don’t join one that seems to drag you down.

OIY, is it me or is the word networking seriously messed up in definition now? So many have screwed it up over the last few decades and especially into the social media years.

Networking is creating a foundation of connections that can boost your business, motivate you, and support you with all of your efforts. If you’re an entrepreneur or business owner, you never want to operate alone. The world is too big and too amazing to do it alone!

Having great entrepreneurs around to motivate and inspire you, as well as share knowledge that can catapult you to the top of your niche – is always a good idea.

You don’t want all of your networking efforts to be in just one area (such as list building) – because that can narrow the positive benefits for yourself and the people you’re connecting with.

You want to networking with people who excel in many different ways so that you can learn from all of them and bring your business to a higher level. How you connect to these people should also vary. I love connecting in my niche and out of my niche for a variety of conversations.

You can connect with face-to-face encounters in your personal and professional life or live via zoom as is the norm now. lol You can make connections on social media sites, through email contact or in groups.

You can connect with a network both far and near by text or by phone calls, too. The sea of networking is a vast, endless supply of connections just waiting to be tapped into by someone like you that wants to learn and grow with the help of others.

Why You Need to Network

While being a solo entrepreneur is wonderful, it can also put a lot of pressure on you because you don’t have a support system or team to help you succeed like there is in an office setting.

Networking can keep you moving forward with your goals. Though the term “self-made woman” sounds great, in reality, no one person succeeded without a single bit of help through his or her lifetime.

Somewhere along the line, there was at least one person who reached out and helped someone else get where she wanted to be with a dream or a goal. By connecting with other people, there can be a source of help waiting for you that will provide you with encouragement.

When you move forward, obstacles sometimes happen. Maybe not often – and maybe not huge, but it does happen. When you have a network of people – it can help you find a path through or around anything trying to deter your success. You don’t have to stay stuck in it.

It might be that your sales copy isn’t converting – or your product sales are low. Networking brings people into your life who can confidently speak up and help you pinpoint the issues and resolve them. They can help you tweak the wording and try new things.

It helps because when you’re striving for something in your professional life, having a bond with people who have walked in your shoes strengthens you.

When you’re building a network, make sure that some of the people you connect with are heading in the same direction. You want to do this because those people will be able to understand and they’ll be able to “get you” – unlike those who aren’t going after a similar goal.

But make sure you have variety – because sometimes someone who is on a different path can offer a unique point of view for your vision – injecting fresh ideas into an otherwise stagnant path.

By having a solid network, you’ll get the feeling that you’re not in it alone. On the days that it can be difficult to keep on going, others are there to help you shoulder the burden or get your mindset to a better place.

That can create momentum when you feel like you’re beginning to lag in motivation or enthusiasm. You need a network because you’ll find people that you can bounce new ideas off of.

You’ll also have others who can help you come up with new ideas. Or they may be able to suggest going in a different direction when the path you’re on is filled with more obstacles than you anticipated.

In almost any endeavour in life, our emotions are closely tangled with whatever it is that we’re doing. When you have a team of people you network with, you’ll often find a great network of emotional support. They view the work without emotion and can help you separate it a bit.

You’ll be able to see that whatever happens – good or bad – in your life, doesn’t have to change who you are. You’ll be able to look at how others handle success and how they deal with setbacks.

With a good network, you can create partnerships or joint ventures that can lead to even greater opportunities. You can double the amount of output you’re capable of when you have a network.

You’ll also gain the benefit of others who may have more experience and wisdom with the project that you’re dealing with. Maybe they know a shortcut or can help you avoid a disastrous result by offering a bit of advice.

Staying motivated is one of the most important factors in achieving your goals, so finding ways to hold yourself accountable is a must if you want to be successful. There are many ways to hold yourself accountable, but not every way is right for everyone.

You’ll have to find out what works best for you, and then use those to help you reach your goals. Below there are 7 ideas for ways to hold yourself accountable so that you can stay motivated and achieve your goals.

1) Tracking your goals – is one way you can hold yourself accountable. There are several ways to track your goals, so you’ll have to find what works best for you. You can list simple goals and then mark them out as you complete them, but that doesn’t work for more complex goals or goals that take more than a few days complete. Breaking up goals and tracking them in a spreadsheet is a good way to keep track of your goals.

Keeping a journal is also a good way to track your progress. Marking days of a new habit on a calendar can be helpful in tracking your progress toward a new habit or goal. Some people even like tracking goals on a large poster because it’s right there all the time. Any of these ways are great ways to track your goals.

2) Use benchmarks – If you’re going to track goals with multiple steps or goals that take an extended amount of time to complete, it’s important to break the goal up into smaller steps. Use each step as a benchmark, or group smaller steps together to create them. Benchmarks make it easier to track progress without getting overwhelmed, and they will help you maintain your motivation. If you are ready to really tackle benchmarks, sign up for my 90 Day Planner Challenge!

3)Reward yourself – Rewards are a good way to keep your motivation up while working toward achieving your goals. You can work toward a large reward once you meet your goal, but giving yourself a small reward for reaching each benchmark is a better way to keep your motivation high. You can still give yourself a large reward once you reach your goal.

4) Use visual reminders -Visual reminders are key for some people, especially those who are visual learners. Visual reminders can be a simple sticky note with your goal written on it or an image that reminds you of your goal. They can also be more complex like a large poster with an intricate vision board or a goal planning note book that includes smaller vision boards for each goal. Just make sure it’s something that speaks to you.

5) Find an accountability partner – An accountability partner can be a friend, colleague, spouse, or other trusted family member. It should be someone that can cheer you on but can also let you know when you need to do something different or refocus your attention. Make sure to check in often with your accountability partner.

6) Schedule accountability check-ins -Schedule regular check-ins with your accountability partner if you’re using one. If you choose not to use an accountability partner, schedule regular check-ins with yourself so that you can monitor your progress. Be honest with yourself during these check-ins so that you can make adjustments as needed.

7) Make adjustments -Make adjustments as needed. If you find something’s not working, figure out a way to do it better, and adjust your plan. Success takes work, and knowing when to adjust is important.

Try several of these methods of accountability and see what works best for you. You may already have an idea of which to try first, and you may just need to explore them to find something that works. Just be willing to adjust if something’s not helping you maintain your motivation.

We go through times of feeling meh about work or everyday life. But, the good news is there are also plenty of solutions to get you out of the humdrums-and back to yourself in no time!

There can be varying factors you should consider. Feeling a lack of motivation, or just simply not wanting to do something maybe related to your overall physical or mental health. In other instances, it m

ay just simply involve doing something that perhaps your mind and body are just not ready to do.

Follow any of these 5 simple steps for motivating yourself the next time you are having struggles.

1. For many people, trying something new can make all the difference in how you feel, or how motivated you are later on in the day. Just remember, don’t quit after only trying one thing if it doesn’t work out–keep pushing yourself to learn more about what makes you happy and go with it!

2. Going outside to take a walk in the morning, even if only for a few minutes, thanks to fresh air, being able to see or interact with others, and simply take in the scenery can help motivate you to do other tasks you just simply don’t feel like doing.

3. Try making a “to-do list” of your daily goals or obligations. Even better, consider investing in a budget-friendly white-board to pin up on your home office or bedroom that you can use to precisely map out what it is you’re looking to accomplish, and how!

4. Get more sleep–and we can’t emphasize this enough! Getting the proper, scientifically proven and recommended 7-10 hours of sleep each night can make a dramatic difference in how motivated you feel the next day–or how much energy you have. Also, how comfortable is your mattress? Is it time to possibly invest in a new one? As an extra tip, consider shutting off all electronic devices and lights at least 45 minutes before you intend to fall asleep.

5. Playing energizing music, listening to motivational videos, or even tips by personal trainers and life experts can also be very useful in gathering the necessary energy and motivation to be successful with today’s, and tomorrow’s tasks.

Most importantly, try to focus on what you do have in life, or even write them down if you want! This should help motivate you, and remind you of the good things you have–as well as what it took to get there.

If you work online, you have probably experienced burnout. Hopefully not, but dang it’s easy to have hit. Perhaps you witnessed a colleague “crash and burn” due to high levels of stress that were never recognized and changed.

Unfortunately, this type of on-the-job burnout, in the tech industry can lead to more than just biz failure.

Mental health professionals recognize burnout as a serious physical and mental problem. When left untreated, the chronic stress which leads to burnout can even cause someone to have thoughts of suicide. The constant release of cortisol and other stress-related hormones cause dangerous imbalances in your mind and body, which could lead to an inability to function normally.

I’ve been very vocal about my burnout at the end of 2020. I can easily look back at all the reasons it happened. I am now aware of the signs as they show up since it still has been a weird time and they’ve continued to pop up. At the end of 2020 I was about to walk away after 20 years of working online.

I wasn’t going to sell things off. I wasn’t going to pass things on. I wasn’t going to say goodbye even. I hit a point that I was going to go to all my accounts and delete them.

It hit a serious point. No longer caring is a scary place for me to be. As an empath that has always helped others this was a very obvious rock bottom. I can look back and tell you that point was when I realized I no longer cared about helping others. Looking back I know this was because I was personally lost.

This is why it is so important to identify the symptoms of tech burnout so you can deal with them before you become a victim of this very real entrepreneur calamity.

What is Tech Burnout?

In the tech world, workers are all too familiar with burnout. Long hours, working days on end without any free time is a common occurrence.

Burnout is a condition of the effects of prolonged stress, which have serious mental and physical health consequences. Look at your habits and feelings to see if tech burnout may be creeping up on you:

Long hours of work at a hectic pace

Feeling unappreciated and taken advantage of

Poor sleep quality

Constant irritability

A frequent and uncharacteristic crash in productivity

A feeling that you hate your work

Not enjoying spare time activities, and thinking about work all the time

You feel like there are no “good days”, and everyday stinks

How To Avoid, and Deal With, Tech Burnout

It is always better to prevent a health condition rather than treat it. When you experience constant, unrelenting stress, your body and mind will eventually break if you don’t take a break. So, schedule frequent breaks throughout the day to think about anything other than your biz.

Look at the list of symptoms above.

When you start noticing more than one of those tech burnout symptoms in your life, stop what you’re doing. Think about your biz and personal life. Prioritize what is important to you. Work is fine, and more to than fine to those of us that love our biz. But living only for your biz will create the symptoms above. Remember why you work for yourself. You want the LIFE your biz will create that you will enjoy.

Here are some simple steps that you’ve heard before. You’ve heard them before because they make a difference. You fight doing them because you don’t have time AND you know they will make a difference lol But what you aren’t paying attention to is the awesome productivity and creativity it brings to your biz!

Make sure you get plenty of rest. Keep properly hydrated. Eat healthy. Don’t forget to exercise regularly.

Sitting on our ass all day-every day leads us down an ugly road. All of those activities lead to a body and mind which can naturally handle stress and anxiety. As you already know, stress and anxiety are frequent companions as a biz owner, so make sure you take the required steps to keep tech burnout from negatively impacting your life.

Hitting the extreme low point made it easier to drop things. If I was willing to walk away from it all, then I had now given myself permission to take any and all things off my list I no longer wanted to do. Hence, 2021 became a much better year filled with things I enjoyed. Building on that, my word for 2022 is fun. I just don’t think we can get enough of that in our lives.

Biz boldly,

That saying is used to illustrate the fact that someone has more responsibilities, tasks and other commitments than they can handle. When this situation persists, this chronic stress, and your body’s response to it, can lead you to feeling burned out altogether, and incapable of dealing with your normal, day-to-day life.

Prioritize, Prioritize, Prioritize

When you have too many commitments to keep up with, it is only natural to feel a sense of failure or depression when responsibilities are not handled. This is a sign that you are a responsible person. You have made commitments or had tasks handed down to you, and you work very hard to accomplish all of them. Sometimes though, there don’t seem to be enough hours in the day. Your personal and business responsibilities, as well as social activities, seem to pile up one on another until you experience constant stress, rather than a sense of accomplishment.

This is a sign that you need to prioritize your world, and stop saying “yes” every time you are asked to help out.

What is really, truly important in your life? Ask yourself this question about your job, family, and yourself. Be very honest here. Understanding what needs to be done, and what you want to get done, as well as what you should ignore, helps you plan your day so that your most important responsibilities are handled first.

Take a Look at Your To-Do List

Write down everything you need to accomplish today, this week, this month and this year. Without writing it down, and simply relying on your memory, doesn’t always work. Once you have your to-do list in front of you, circle or check those activities which only take a few minutes to finish.

Your list of responsibilities for today may have 15 items. Taken as a whole, that list can look pretty daunting. You are thinking about every task and commitment at the same time, but you can’t accomplish more than one thing at a time.

Look at each item on your to do list individually. By grouping together those responsibilities which can be completed in a few minutes each, and then attacking them accordingly, you can often knockout a large part of your responsibilities in a short period of time.

Make Time for Yourself

If you are burned-out you can’t help anyone, including yourself. Clear time in your schedule for “me” activities. You may be surprised that by making time for yourself throughout your busy schedule, you are more productive, and capable of accomplishing all of your scheduled activities and commitments.

We set high standards and quite often unrealistic expectations for our goals. We just can’t do everything without self-imploding.

It’s hard to sustain motivation for many goals at once, but sustaining motivation is the most important factor in achieving your goals. Because of this, having fewer goals to work on at the time will make it easier to stay motivated long enough to reach your goals. Your success depends on your ability to prioritize your goals and manage your motivation while working toward them.

Having fewer goals makes it easier to stay motivated.

You can only focus on so many things at once. It’s easy to over estimate what can be accomplished, but it’s important to learn how to dial it back and prioritize your most important goals over the others. The more focused you are on a goal, the greater your chance of success. Also, the fewer goals you have, the more you can focus your energy, time, and other resources toward achieving that goal. Typically making it happen quicker because it got your full attention. It’s not easy to choose your most important goals, but it’s worth the effort.

We are all given the same amount of time in each day, and we have to plan our lives based on the same 24 hours that everyone else has. We all have to allow time for each task we plan to do each day. Basic needs are similar for everyone, but after that, we choose how our time is spent. The only problem with that is you have to decide what is important and then make sure you spend your time doing the things that matter to you.

If you set too many goals at once, you won’t have time to achieve all of them and you’ll probably feel like you’re spinning your wheels while not achieving anything. This is a quick way to business burnout and a lot of stress. Working toward fewer goals at a time will allow you to spend more time on each one, and you’ll be more likely to be successful.

Even if you have time to put toward many goals at once, you probably won’t have the mental and physical energy it takes to achieve them. Bouncing between projects also takes more time as you keep changing direction for the different tasks. This causes our minds to crash and if you are like many, you feel like you are spinning in circles getting nothing done. Spreading yourself too thin wreaks havoc on your energy levels, and can cause you to fail at reaching one or more of your goals.

Be honest with yourself

Think about all of your obligations and the limits you have with your time and energy already, and then choose what goals to pursue first. What do you really have the energy for?

We can easily over estimate what we’re capable of and set unrealistic goals for ourselves. We don’t want to think of our own limitations, but if you’re going to be successful you have to learn to do just that. 24 hours in a day and you can only fit so much into it.

It’s a lot easier to maintain our motivation for fewer goals at the time because we have limited focus, time, energy, and other resources. The fewer things you try to do at once, the better you can do each one, and the greater your chance of success. Each success feeds our motivation to get another goal done.

I’ve totally battled it personally. Even though partnerships can have their ups and downs, at least you have someone to handle some of the stress and responsibility. You have that partner to commiserate with when things aren’t going right and share the workload.

Solopreneurs are by themselves and have the entire weight of their success on their shoulders. This can lead you to work 14+ hour days and lose track of what’s happening in your home and with your family. But, is focusing so much attention on your business a wise decision?

You know the answer is no if you want to enjoy your life. Even if you’re single, making time for self-care and relaxation will improve your overall health and mental well being. Here are signs you might be headed toward business burnout.

Insomnia. If your brain can’t shut down because you’re consumed with work, your sleep pattern will be disrupted, leaving you overtired, lacking energy, and possibly lacking the mental energy to make wise business decisions.

Procrastination. Do you cringe at the length of your daily to-do list? Did these tasks once excite you but now they make you want to crawl under a rock? Procrastination leads to missed deadlines and opportunities to promote your business.

Fatigue. The human body is only capable of handling so much stress on limited sleep. Certainly you’ve heard the phrase “burning the candle at both ends”? That’s what happens when you work yourself to the bone and don’t give your body and brain enough time to recover before starting another high-stress day. At some point your body will want to give up, causing severe fatigue and possibly other illnesses that will keep you out of the office. Who has time for that?

Changes in appetite. For some people, stress causes them to overeat; for others, stress reduces their appetites. Neither extreme is good for your body. For optimal health and mental clarity, take lunch breaks away from the desk and choose natural, healthy food choices instead of fast food items.

Anxiety. High stress causes anxiety, which can cause crippling fear or other physical symptoms. Keep in mind: there’s a big difference between the anxiety you feel when stepping out of your comfort zone versus stress-induced anxiety that doesn’t seem to go away. The latter will debilitate you and not let you move forward in anything you are doing.

Think about this: as a solopreneur, if you are not physically able to run your business, what happens to it? Chances are, you’ll have to close your doors and any streams of income you currently have will disappear.

Let’s avoid this happening!

Take care of your whole body, mind, and spirit. Take quiet time to relax. Get outdoors and breathe in some fresh air. Unplug for a whole weekend and live in the moment with your family. Reconnect with old friends. Start a hobby. The choices are limitless. It’s not easy to build these better habits and I totally get it! I’ve burned myself out before. When you aren’t taking time to enjoy the life you’ve created, what’s the point of it all?

Follow these 5 Tips for Easy Self-care

In just a few days I’m hosting a webinar dedicated to this self-care topic. I discovered changes in my own business and my mindset once I started taking care of myself and living life outside of the office, computer and phone. My webinar is titled, “5 Self-care Ideas for Busy Entrepreneurs” and I promise you don’t need to dedicate hours a day or make any pricey purchases to be successful at taking care of yourself. Implement these tips in the privacy of your home.

Remember, happiness is a choice. Live with no regrets.
